AriZona Beverage is an iconic thriving company. The packaging alone can be recognized immediately.
It’s facility in Beazley, NJ is also anything but ordinary. Over 600,000 sf of brewing, bottling and packaging of over 100 different beverages for market. The Lobby accommodates over 80 employees daily, and a visitor entrance that will showcase the evolution of the company; from a residential kitchen in Queens, NY to a multi-billion dollar worldwide brand.
Inspiration for the lobby came from the owner’s desire to pay homage to the industrial age in New York. Most NYC commuters and tourists don’t give much thought to what supports the world above their heads. They pass by the complex engineered columns made with plates and rivets without a glance.
The skeleton of the AriZona Beverage Lobby, unlike the subway’s construct, was built using now standard methods; wide flange steel columns and beams. The 40’ tall volume was transformed into a space reminiscent of the main concourse at 1910-era Penn Station. Our take on marrying the old with the new was to shroud the standard structure with plates and angles similar to the subways of NY and create spectacular soaring archways reaching the roof. After entering this two-story concourse-like space the visitor advances to a reception desk made of stacked steel beams set askew to create a hidden desk surface. These rolled steel members and those of the stair are set in contrast to the complex geometry of the archways.
Visitors then head to either the company store or up stairs to the visitor mezzanine overlooking the production and bottling of AriZona Beverage. The lower run of the glass stair is captured by 3’ fabricated steel beams transporting the visitor to a glass landing showcasing the structure below them and allowing a grand view of the huge chandelier repurposed from a mothballed 12’ diameter bottle filling machine. The next run of glass treads supported by beams and cut plates leads to the mezzanine overlooking the production area ahead and the Lobby behind them. There will be guided tours along catwalks that showcase innovations serving the systems below.
